Peer Mentoring

Success Stories:

Backstory:

It goes without saying that mens mental health and the rising suicide rates in the United Kingdom is a cause for concern. With self-harm, crisis team referrals, and drug misuse on the rise; more is needed to be done to help influence and support young people by providing a high quality level of support, education, and guidance.

Statistics:

Studies from the NHS and the Office for National Statistics estimate that:

- 34 to 10% of people in England will experience depression in their lifetime.

- One adult in six had a common mental disorder.

- 20.3% of eight to 16-year-olds had a probable mental disorder in 2023.

- 12.5% of 17 to 19-year-olds had an eating disorder.

- 77% of men polled said they experienced some level of symptoms such as anxiety, stress, or depression.

How we will make a difference:

We believe that support, education, and the right support system can truly change the life of a young person and lead them onto the right path. Following the influence of Liverpool's "Weapons Down, Gloves Up", The Mental Shift have launched "Lives, Not Knives".

This is a nationwide offering that works with schools, gyms, and third sector organisations to offer educational sessions and 12-week training programs. All designed to provide knowledge and insight, offer support and guidance, and give young people the best shot in life...

Who we will work with:

We have successfully built working relationships with several charities, services, and gyms across England. These include The Childrens Society, CNTW NHS Trust, James Place, and gyms like Northern Kings Gym, Houghton Thai Boxing, and soon to be many more.
